12 Jun The Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program by AIAPR bids farewell to the 2023 Class

The Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program (CKLDP) in Puerto Rico recently completed its 2022-2023 session. This highly selective training program aims to develop the next generation of leaders in architecture, and it is noteworthy that five participants from V Architecture were among those who benefited from this unique educational seminar series. CKLDP is a program organized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and is named after Christopher Kelley, an emerging leader in the field who passed away in 2012. The program is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge they need to become influential leaders in their firms, communities, and the profession as a whole. The sessions cover various topics, from communication and collaboration to strategic planning and advocacy. Out of the 16 participants in the 2023 class, five were from V Architecture:

 

 

During the CKLDP, participants attended eight sessions that were spread out over several months. The program provides participants with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed as leaders in their firms and beyond by covering a range of topics in the eight sessions. The main themes included:

 

    1. Working Together
    2. Entrepreneurship & Business Management
    3. Community Engagement
    4. The Art of Negotiation
    5. Closing the Deal
    6. Expanding the Definition of Practice
    7. Research, Education, and Practice
    8. The Future of Practice

 

All the participants enjoyed fostering a strong bond with each other as they worked on team projects, listened to experienced speakers who shared their perspectives on the field of architecture, and even got their hands a little dirty when they could go out and support community services. Overall, the CKLDP is an essential program for developing the next generation of leaders in architecture. The fact that five out of the 16 participants in the 2023 class were from V Architecture is a testament to the firm’s commitment to leadership development. Our firm also contributed to the success by being a Benefactor for first three years of the program, that includes the 2023-2024 session.
