El Metropol Bar & Restaurant has become an undisputed staple in the Puerto Rican culinary scene for generations. When the time came for the owners to expand their timeless brand to the mainland, the Luis Muñoz Marin Airport became a perfect option as a stepping stone in their venture across the Atlantic. Thanks to our expertise in multi-functional, high-style spaces, the owners found a perfect match with the V Architecture design team. The project marks the debut of several new business elements for Metropol, and presented itself as a key opportunity to revamp their brand image.

Located right next to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint in Terminal C, it’s a welcome addition to one of the busiest spots at the airport. The space is set apart by its contemporary design, which welcomes the traveler to enjoy a good meal in a refreshing ambiance. For those in a hurry to catch a flight, there is a “To-Go” area for a quick pick up of a Creole fritter, sandwiches, coffee or drink. Colorful triangles were added throughout for dynamism and energy, intricately sprinkled against the cozy look of more traditional raw materials. For those affording some time before a flight, the space features a wide dining area and their bar, to entice the multitude of passersby. The bar, with a seating capacity of 20, is the definite centerpiece of the project, providing the perfect excuse for passengers to savor a mojito while they wait. The Bar incorporates ceramic tile finishes that tie in the triangle motif with a smaller scale pattern that drapes from the bar into the floor, creating a mesmerizing visual element. To its side is the dining area, with a pleasant blend of natural tones to relax those with longer layovers.
