InterContinental Isabela Conference and Golf Resort

Royal Isabela Golf Resort is an exclusive hotel in Isabela, a seaside township in the northwest area of Puerto Rico.  The 20-casita luxury resort has been operational since 2012 and represents the first phase of the Costa Isabela development plan. It sits on a privileged land of more than 1750 acres, and it is blessed with world-class ocean views, gorgeous cliffs, a championship-level 18-hole golf course, and native flora & fauna. In this same scene, a visionary group of developers and investors asked V to design a conference center hotel to be located at the west end of the property.  The design’s primary goal was to prove the site’s viability for future development. V served as a conduit of communication between the developers, investors, and the property’s private owners regarding the potential future of a bigger-scale hospitality venue.  

Since the Hospitality Industry is adamant about targeting the hidden gem of Isabela, early in the design process, the Owner identified the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts (IHG Hotels & Resorts) as the preferred brand.  The brand’s objective has been to delight luxury travelers since 1946. The design flourished into a 316 modern Spanish-style resort hotel with this flag. The project includes 316 upscale guest rooms at the Main Hotel Building, 30,000 sq ft. of Convention Hub with 3 Ballrooms and several Meeting Rooms, Restaurants, Bars, Amenities Buildings for Spa, Kids, Fitness Center and 40 secluded cabanas surrounding a one-acre swimmable lagoon-type pool.  Two splendid event lawns, a poolside grill, and a bar complete the ensemble of the resort’s open-air features.

Hotel sustainable measures include a power generation system that recovers heat to generate chilled water to feed the air handling units of each guestroom. The microgrid system, with cogeneration, can generate its own electric power, which can considerably reduce utility costs.

Although construction is one of the most noticeable rewards for any architectural project, sometimes, to make things concrete, both the creative and the business efforts need to be aligned.  In this case study, the InterContinental Isabela Conference and Golf Resort design created the baseline and the framework to attract new strategies and new developments. We firmly believe that InterContinental Isabela Conference and Golf Resort can equally thrive in this one-of-a-kind destination in the northwest of Puerto Rico.
